Keisha Coleman, LPCC-S

My name is Keisha Coleman. I have an undergraduate degree in Human Services from Lindsay Wilson College, and have a Masters in Clinical Counseling from Eastern Kentucky University. Since my graduation, I obtained licensure as a professional counselor and have focused my practice on helping clients overcome trauma, attachment disorders, depression, anxiety, and many other areas of focus. I also have a special interest in working with patients who are seeking bariatric surgery interventions that need to “work on their headspace”, because I am a successful bariatric patient myself who has successfully lost and kept off over 125 pounds.  I believe that good things come to those who do the work, and I enjoy working with clients who are motivated to make lasting change. I will work as hard as you do to help you create the progress you are seeking to meet your goals.

I primarily work with individuals from all stages of life, and am currently offering telehealth services. Whether you’re new to counseling, or if you’ve had experience with counseling that you want to continue to build upon, I can help. My approach is one of being open to the client’s authenticity, and I strive to meet clients exactly at where they are at in their healing journey.  I am also a fan of the “feel and deal” philosophy– you have to feel your emotions before you can deal with them. Sometimes, this is the hardest part of treatment because so often clients have learned unhealthy coping mechanisms that help them numb, avoid, and shove down their feelings altogether. To help clients, I utilize methods such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Behavior Therapy, Mindfulness techniques, Narrative Therapy, Trauma Systems Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). I consider myself a fairly eclectic therapist, but I will work with you to determine a treatment plan that best suits your needs.

In my free time I enjoy reading (especially Harry Potter novels, which I have loved since a young age), crafts, walking, video games, and spending time with my amazing husband and two children. I am an animal lover, and have two adorable Miniature Schnauzers and a cat. I am an avid cook and lover of all things food, but try to maintain a healthy lifestyle. If I could give any piece of advice to a potential client, it would be to always be active in your treatment and be an advocate for yourself! I look forward to working with each of you!
